2007 Season

2007 Field2007 was the FIRST Robotics Competition's 16th consecutive season. The game was Rack 'N' Roll. The objective of the game was to place inflatable pool tubes onto a three-level scoring structure known as 'the rack.'

This is the year in which South High School Robotics officially opened its doors to all Torrance area high schools. This approach was successful, with two students from North High joining the majority of the team from South. The 2007 team worked in an empty bungalow at Walteria Elementary School, where the robot was built, packed, and shipped. TorBots entered two Southern California-area regionals, the Los Angeles Regional and the newly-established San Diego Regional. Although the team encountered moderate success at LA, earning 12th place, the 8th alliance seed (with 207 and 1388), and defeating the #1 seeded alliance in quarter-finals, the team hit a stroke of bad luck at San Diego and ranked near the bottom of the pack at the end of qualifying.

2007 Team Fox 11Originally a robot with a pneumatics-powered arm, the robot's weight problem led to the decision to make the robot play pure defense. The robot was equipped with two very large ramps that deployed much like a bird's wings. The ramps were successful, but the ramps would occasionally not deploy, and alliance partners sometimes found it hard to drive onto them.
